The Forest
The open-world survival game is a sequel to The Forest, which left players on a cannibal-infested island following a plane accident in 2018. Sons of the Forest transports us to another wooded peninsula, this time in pursuit of a missing millionaire. It just so happens that this island is also home to mutant cannibals.
Chopping down trees is a crucial action in Sons of the Forest, which will see us develop more intricate weaponry and structures as we go. Yet, an intriguing addition to the survival formula here is NPC buddies that may assist us with less thrilling survival activities, such as cutting down trees.
One of my friends James got immediately into Sons of the Forest after downloading it. I’m not sure what he’s up to right now, but he was carrying his severed head in the first image he gave us (above), so I suppose things are going well, and he’s cutting down many trees.
Sons of the Forest on Steam

Sons of the Forest costs $30 on Steam, and we’ll keep you updated on our progress. The game’s Steam user reviews are now “Very Positive,” but it’s just been out for a few hours, and it’s the kind of thing that people will want to devote tens or hundreds of hours into.
Sons of the Forest will remain in early access for “6-8 months,” according to the developer, and the final version will feature bug patches, changes to “balance and core gameplay,” more objects to manufacture, construct, and uncover, and “new game mechanics and narrative.”
